As if Ms. Adelman's lighting designs weren't enough to keep our eyes twinkling, she just had to go covering her icff booth in golden stickers. It's beautiful. It reminds me of fish scales. My, my, what wouldn't I do for a golden fish? (not a goldfish mind you which are relatively dull and death-prone)
That last thought lends my imagination to a story of a very foolish character in a fairytale that could have been written by a Grimm brother.
The story of a young daughter of a fisherman who, due to covetous tendencies, is unhappy with the modest place in life that birth and fortune have allotted her. Lo and behold, she happens upon a golden fish and is granted a wish (there is a precedent for wish-granting fish is these kinds of stories, probably for golden fish as well) She wishes to be turned into a princess with great wealth who is loved by all. There is, of course, some catch that eventually turns her into a fish, a golden fish of course, setting the previously cursed person inside the afore mentioned golden fish free. Not being very street-wise (or sea-wise we should say), she sets out to find help from her real father the fisherman, gets caught by him instead, and ironically, is fed to the King in exchange for his help in finding the fisherman's beloved and missing daughter.
Maybe there is some moral lesson I should take away from my own tale of greed and piscine woe, but pffff! Just wait until I get my hands on some golden stickers...
Oooo La ... What won't I cover? Everything and everyone in my line of sight is in some serious danger!

weekend window shopping

Due to carelessness (and perhaps drunkenness) I locked my keys in my car and then proceeded to misplace my spare set last night. I actually had a back-up plan for my back-up plan and was still failed on every tier. (My friends had a good laugh at me for this, by the way.) So, now that I'm back with the living I find myself alone and marooned at John's house for about 24 hours. I suppose I could escape, but I'm enjoying the excuse to sit on the sofa all day, watch cable, take advantage of a full fridge, and make use of the wi-fi (sigh, sweet sweet luxuries).

happy weekend

This post title has a double-meaning. It refers, of course, to my wish for all my lovely readers (and everyone else that I care slightly less about) to have a happy weekend. It is also the subject of the photos you see above. Last weekend my family celebrated the Wonder Baby's (a.k.a. Kelsey's) high school graduation. She is the youngest, which is unfortunate because now that the last (but not the least) of us has gone and grown up none of us will have any excuse to act the way we do (though it's not likely to stop us). It was a wonderful day pulled together by hard work (katie must have made at least 150 ft. of paper chain), careful planning (kelsey's one pre-party task was to pray for it not to rain... we figured she was the only one up to this task since she is still on god's good side) and a great deal of generosity (special thanks to annie for letting us borrow her treasured teacups, to target and wal-mart for letting us swindle you, to tad for re-rigging his entire home theater system outdoors, to tony the master of fried foods, and to the murray county agricultural center for the adorable old school chairs).

promises, promises

So, I know I said I would be posting photos from this past weekend. Did I say that I would post them on Tuesday? Eeek. I guess I fibbed, but I have not forgotten. The above pic is a sneak peak. That's mi hermano. One of my very favorite photos from the weekend, for sure. I'm probably biased though, because he happens to be my very favorite person.
jacquelyn gleisner
My friend Kombo just contacted me about an upcoming solo show of the work of his friend, Jacquelyn Gleisner, at Studio Clout here in Atlanta. Her work piqued my interest, so I thought I would share and encourage anyone in the Atlanta area to check out a Castleberry Hill ArtStroll as some point... like maybe on May 23?

fabian unternährer
This morning I received an email from Mr. Fabian Unternährer of Switzerland thanking me for including his work in a post about i heart photograph last month. Well, it was my pleasure; he is a wonderful photographer. So, in light of that fact and to honor his being the first person to ever email me about Curio+Abyss, today we are taking a closer look at what he can do.

Note: This last image is not of an actual fireplace, but that lack of prior existance didn't stop Amedeo Pace and Kazu Makino from creating a focal point with hand-painted wood mantel. Brilliant! A case in point example of the fact that the reality of a structure is rarely indicative of the limit of its potential.

Is Drew's globe looking a little familiar to anyone else?
How about the record player?
Yep! Alright, alright already... I'm over myself (and mildly embarrassed to be so proudly posting such poor quality images. Can one even be simultaneously proud and embarrassed? Sure. Why not?).
Back to Miss Barrymore!

In case you are wondering what's happening to your right, I'm reorganizing my link lists. The one list was beginning to get out of control, so I'm breaking it on down as best as I know how.

Note: The weekend went off without a hitch. I will be publishing some photos some time tomorrow. I also highly recommend Speed Racer to anyone and everyone. It is not only a visual spectacular but absolutely delightful in every way.

I completely missed this item from blue bell bazaar on etsy. I love it. It reminds me of this and more obviously, this. Alas, now it is sold.
Note: Sorry I haven't made a sturdy post in a few days. I have projects at work and projects at home that are stealing my time and attention. (I'll post about the most exciting of these next week)

I love street posters. I love French rebellions. I would love to see this show.
