marie claire maison & graphic exchange

Marie Claire Maison, a french home interior magazine, pops up on my design blog radar pretty frequently, but it was the keene eye behind this post at Graphic ExchanGe that really locked my attention. So, I'm taking this opportunity to spotlight not one, but two sites that I love.




Graphic ExchanGe is the cherry-bomb-digity of design blogs. Fabien Barral, a graphic designer and photographer in France, created the Graphic ExchanGe to showcase some of the most admirable working graphic designers, photographers, artists, etc. Barral is also the designer/engineer behind the beautiful workshop Harmonie Interieure. (previously seen here).



I am especially interested in these business card and identity designs. I hope that business cards will be my holiday gift for myself this year or maybe a birthday gift for next year or one day, since first it seems I'll need to locate some kind of business for myself.

creepy baby pink

I decided a couple of months ago to paint my mother's bedroom pink. When I mention to someone this particular to-do item on my endless home to-do list I always always get a funny look. It would seem that pink has gone a gotten itself a bad rap.
Then, to assuage their fears, I add that it would be what I like to call "creepy baby pink" which, obviously, prompts yet another "are you crazy?" kinda look. At this point I usually either throw out a pacifying word like salmon or, depending on who I'm speaking to, reference this movie in which there is a delightfully creepy pink bedroom. (if you've seen the movie, you will surely know what I am talking about and if you haven't, you should.)

So, today when I happened over to domino in search of something to feed my hungry hungry blog and saw all these beautiful rooms being featured in a gallery about paint color I couldn't help but want to share a few pink ones in hopes of bringing someone over to my side.

Swayed yet? ... No? Well, perhaps this can close my case.

Note: This last image is not of an actual fireplace, but that lack of prior existance didn't stop Amedeo Pace and Kazu Makino from creating a focal point with hand-painted wood mantel. Brilliant! A case in point example of the fact that the reality of a structure is rarely indicative of the limit of its potential.

Yep! Alright, alright already... I'm over myself (and mildly embarrassed to be so proudly posting such poor quality images. Can one even be simultaneously proud and embarrassed? Sure. Why not?).

Danielle de Lange over at The Style Files just posted great images from the IKEA's new summer collection. And it looks like the trip to Atlantic Station that I've been putting off for months just got put on the calendar!

I came across the little shop Flutter while reading sfgirlbybay's 'Unexpected Guest' spot with Andrea Jenkins of Portland, Oregon. In fact, I discovered unphotographable in that same interview.

Anyhow, shop Flutter...a delightful disarray of found objects and clutter
I dig how it manages girly and macabre at the same time.
